Make Your Organic Lip Balm In 20 INR: For Smooth, Crack-Free Lips
Read Time: 2 mins
Prep Time: 5 mins
Remember THIS DIY non-tinted lip balm I came up a few weeks ago? That was made in less than 100 INR.
Upping the challenge, I wanted to come up with an organic lip balm whose nourishing content is no less the former but cost comes out within 20 INR –That’s precisely half the a fifth the cost of the previous lip balm!
It may sound challenging now and let’s face it – it was (read: GST). A few experiments however followed in my secret laboratory (read: kitchen)
Some flopped. Some worked but did not overwhelm me.
It was a clutter after a point. That’s when I decided to de-clutter the mess I had created.
“Let’s go as simple, minimal and bare-bones as possible,” I thought and consequently, worked out the following non-tinted organic lavender lip balm.

Organic Lip Balm: Ingredients
1. Mango Butter (1 tbsp.) – Buy HERE
2. Virgin Coconut Oil (1 tbsp.) – Buy HERE
3. Lavender Essential Oil (15 drops) – Buy HERE
4. Beeswax (1 tbsp.) – Buy HERE
Organic Lip Balm: Procedure
Step 1 – Add Mango butter, beeswax and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO in short) to a steel bowl. There should not be even one drop of water in it.
Prepare your double-boiler system (You shouldn’t get cold feet upon reading ‘Double Boiler System’.
It’s a simple setup that you can see HERE)
Step 2 – Heat the bigger vessel on low flame. Consequently, everything in the smaller vessel (that is, your steel bowl) will heat up and liquefy. It shouldn’t take more than 5 mins.
Step 3 – Once liquefied, take the smaller vessel out of the bigger one, sprinkle 15 drops of Lavender essential oil.
Step 4 – Transfer everything to your pot or lip balm tube (whatever you prefer).
PRO TIP: Be quick since beeswax will start hardening the lip balm within seconds of being taken off the flame.
Okay, how much will making this lip balm cost me?
Summing up the prices of all the products = 150 + 125 + 200 + 250 = 725/- INR
From the quantities of the ingredients that I have, I can easily make at least 15 pots of 5 g each. How’s that possible?
15 pots of 5 g each = 75 g will have…
Mango butter = 30 g (150/- INR)
Beeswax = 1/3rd of 100 g = 33 g (approx.) (64/- INR)
Remaining 12 g = From VCO & Lavender Essential Oil (40 + 6 = 46/- INR)
We will still, be saving a bulk of our ingredients.
Anyway, the cost of making one 1 g of lip balm = 260/75 = 3.5/- INR (approx)
Finally, the cost of making one 5 g pot of your lip balm = 3.5 *5 = 17.5/- INR
17.5/- INR is less than 20/- INR.
What does that mean? Mission accomplished! Happy dance
If any price or cost deviation occurs in the future, chances are the prices may have changed with time.
Now that this lip balm’s cost fits into my budget, how should I use it?
Glide on your lips whenever desired – morning, evening, night regardless of your gender.
Since it is non-tinted meaning it leaves no colour on lips, this lip balm can be used by men too.
I recommend scrubbing one’s lips once every 4 days to wipe off that leathery texture which spoils its smooth appearance.
